I wanted to compose a new post today, but have suddenly been confronted with a WordPress setup which is completely unfamiliar to me and which I have no clue how to navigate. It appears to be the new block format, but I am an absolute technological blockhead and can’t even begin to understand how to proceed. Thus, I regret to say there will be no more OBSERVATION POST posts pending in-person assistance. Until (and if) this happens, I appreciate all my readers and hope to reconnect with you somewhere down the line.
Great! The + also allows you to click on image for you to upload either from your laptop or phone or wordpress media. It is easy once you get the hang of it. It is tailored like an app i.e. easy click and go to use. I hope it works for you Mistermuse as I would love to read your fun posts again!
I’m not that tech-savvy, G H, but Rivergirl’s tip enabled me to get off block editor back to classic mode on my TEST post, so I’m hopeful that will continue to work with my next “fun post.”
I don’t get it either, Kate. To be switched involuntarily to block editor after all this time is more than irritating, but when you’re at the mercy of the WordPress gods, I guess it’s TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.
I rarely read the instructions for anything. I use the trial and error method. I just keep clicking on things until something works. No doubt the new set-up was invented by people who enjoy video games because there is a lot of clicking. An overabundance of clicking seems to be the trend. If I can help, let me know. ๐
Thank you, mm. Trial and error is how I managed to post this “post.” I’m not sure I could even repeat whatever I did to get here. I’ll probably need to wait until my out-of-town techie daughter visits for Thanksgiving before learning an easily repeatable way to publish new posts. Meanwhile, it appears as if my ability to “Like” and/or comment on your (and others’) posts is unaffected, so I’m not completely ‘outside the loop.’ so to speak.
Trial and error is exactly what gets us there, so Yay for you! I had exactly the same experience but a couple of weeks later all is well. BTW if you search for Classic when prompted to select a block, Classic will appear as first choice in future. (Yes, weird. Classic is one of many blocks within the block editor.) More quirks: for posting podcasts I go to WP Admin and use that very old editor. We need you so don’t give up!
Thank you, Rachel. I’m always leery of trying trial and error on the computer because I might make matters even worse and not know enough to get out of a bigger problem. In any case, I seem to be back on track putting my English to work writing posts instead of wasting time trying to deal with technology issues that are “Greek” to me..
Okay, when you want to write a post find the little add button. +
That will drop down a list of things and one of them is โclassicโ. This will bring up the old editorโs features when you start typing.
Success! Thanks, Rg. I’ll need to do it another time or two to really get the hang of it, but so far, so good. You’re even better than a main man — you’re my Maine girl!
I hate the new format and have begrudgingly used it because I refuse to pay WordPress money to go to the business level which is the minimum level to be able to download that Classic editor widget. I’ve tried to used the classic option within the Block editor but if it works, it’s still not obvious enough for me.
I did what Rivergirl suggested, and was able to easily post a simple Test post in the Classic mode.. Hopefully, it will go as well when I try to do normal posts. Time will tell.
When I saw your Title and Blank post, I instantly knew – New WP Editor strikes again! haha ๐
I’ve managed to get back to the Classic Editor. At least I know what I’m doing there. ๐
Good Luck. ๐
Thanks, scifi. I can’t believe how many comments I’m getting on this post and the TESTING post which follows. It seems that the less i say, the more popular my posts. I wonder if my readers are trying to tell me something? ๐

Click on + to add paragraph and type. I hope this helps. Meanwhile Titled Posts also tells us a lot.

Thanks. I am probably going to need hands-on help, as I doubt I have the tech knowledge and skills to understand written instructions.

You can switch back to classic easily. Do you blog from a pc or your cell phone?

It can, very easily. The first time I tried I had to keep clicking add to bring it back. Iโm finding it much easier to post from my phone.
