THE WORLD ACCORDING TO WARP
Now that we have witnessed (thanks to the January 6 Committee) what the world according to warped American minds looks like, the rest of us Americans can only hope that some semblance of sanity, integrity and justice will prevail. Are our principles mere pieties, or (for example) is no one really above the law? In upcoming elections, who will win the lion’s share of offices: the lyin’ crazies, or men and women of character?
The answer, my friend, is….

I hear ya, Geoff….though I don’t know how there can be justice without integrity. That leaves SANITY if there is to be only one, which at least would (presumably) stave off lunatics running the asylum.

The song is as relevant today as it was when Dylan wrote it in 1962. Will humanity ever learn from there mistakes?

I think of mistakes as being mostly unintended blunders or errors, mm….so even if humanity did learn from them, much of our misery stems from deliberate wrongdoing, which ain’t going away anytime soon (as in NEVER). 😉

I have to agree!
That should be “their” not “there”. Silly auto-correct and I didn’t notice until now! Definitely a mistake! 😉

What is it about this tangerine-tinted knobhead that appeals to so many? I guess the bigger question is what’s so terribly wrong that such numbers would believe that he can provide the solutions? We have one of these orange types running for leadership of one of our federal parties. He’s younger and smarter, and just as big an ultra-conservative egocentric liar. Up here the natural position is to tilt left (by American standards), but I find this guy’s latent popularity quite worrisome.

I read that he just sold a newly recorded version of BLOWIN’ IN THE WIND a few weeks ago, so he’s still around. Unfortunately, so is Trump (speaking of blowin’ in the wind).

I’ve become a bit more optimistic that Trump will pay (more or less) for his crimes, as I don’t see how the DOJ cannot prosecute him, given the overwhelming evidence against him.

It’s really funny, because I did the same with my a.m. post this morning … almost no words, just that Gilligan’s Island parody. I find I’m too … what? Depressed? Angry? Anyway, the words just aren’t flowing like they usually do. I thought it was funny that we both did similarly brief, yet meaningful posts.

Thanks, Jill. If Merrick Garland and we voters do our duty, Trump will be prosecuted, and most of the rascals seeking office will not get in. The last election was the most important of our lives until the next one, and the next one will be the most important until the one after that, and so on until Trumpism (not just Trump) is no longer a threat to democracy.

I can see no reason for Garland not to prosecute Trump … to me, the evidence that he a) incited the attempted coup, and b) failed to put the security of the nation ahead of his own personal interests, is overwhelming, clear, and indisputable. I think that if he isn’t held accountable, there are going to be some angry … nay, furious … people in this country and I am one of them. You’re right … it will take time for Trumpism to die, but die it must, for the alternative is a dictatorship. Period. Sigh.

Mr. Muse, couldn’t agree more with you. And as you and many others know, I am DEEP in the swampy quagmire of warpedness down here in Texas, supposedly the “Friendship State.” Pffft. 🙄 Not even close; hasn’t been since 1995 when Gov. Ann Richards left office.
You may already know about this re-airing on CNN Special Reports tomorrow evening at 7pm CST: Deep In the Pockets of Texas. A must see for anyone not in Texas and if you’re a sane, moderate or progressive American. Yes, as Ed Lavandera reveals, these Texas oil tycoons and their GOP puppets indeed plan to move THEIR ideology outside of Texas and across the entire United States. WARNING! This is very real. Fyi.

Thanks. I’ve seen the plugs on CNN for DEEP IN THE POCKETS OF TEXAS and plan to watch it. I expect it will paint a slightly less rosy picture of the state than this old song:

Oh my, Gene Autry comes from my grandparent’s generation and THAT was a completely different Texas back then, not even close to what the state is now! Night & day is a gross understatement.
But in fact, people like Gene Autry and his kind, are what I and most all of my 8th and 9th generation Texan family-members REMEMBER about most all (white, kind, peaceful, moderate, reasonably sane…) Texans back then. The state no longer represents ANYTHING resembling a Tioga, TX, World War 2 veteran eager to SERVE his country! That bygone era no longer exists in Texas’ 21st-century. Period.

I was last in Texas almost five decades ago, which was closer to Gene Autry’s time than to the current time, so I guess I should thank my lone-ly star for that. 😉

I’m sure CNN’s Creative Dept/Division(?) will at least soon release the transcript of the show on their website. I saw many/most transcripts of most all their previous “Special Report” airings there. Fyi.

Trimpism will go on even if Trump ends up behind bars, but there is still such a thing as justice, which cries out for Trump to pay for his criminality no matter what “others won’t believe.” Otherwise, “where we are now” is a walk in the park compared to where we’re headed (IMHO, of course).

God, I know. I don’t even want to think about it. I hope you’re right and justice will prevail; it hasn’t always, so maybe this time is “big” enough and far-reaching enough to get the gears in motion. I still have hope.

If we apathetically let MAGA Republicns take power by default, democracy is doomed to be replaced by autocracy. This means VOTE despite voting having been made more difficult and onerous in some GOP-controlled states.
